Giants were given a two point early lead by Fontenot, who opened the meeting with a 412 foot homerun, and Torres who doubled the minimal advantage as just. The second term went scoreless for both sides, while the third one saw Young Jr. close the gap to one point for Rockies, following Smith’s sacrifice fly.
But San Francisco broke back immediately as Sandoval and Belt hit a couple of homers in the next inning, making it 4-1. Rockies strolled to make their loss more bearable as Smith and Kouzmanoff closed the gap to six points in the same inning.
Beltran closed the meeting with a 12th one for San Francisco, following an error committed by second baseman Nelson. “The ball was very true going through the strike zone and somewhere between belt and mid-thigh area. When you do that, you’re going to get hit by good big league hitters. That’s exactly what happened,” said Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy.
On the other side, Sandoval looked confident with the victory, claiming that: “I said to my teammates, `I got the hard ones. We’ll see what happens.’ When you get the hard ones, it’s tough to get the easy ones. I wasn’t thinking about the cycle, you just want to get a pitch to drive the guy in. I got a good pitch, and I hit a home run.”
