Kirov Ballet to perform outdoors during the holiday of September 7thin Rio de Janeiro

The seventh day of September marks the anniversary of the independence of Brazil. On this day, the Cariocas, as well as those who are doing tourism in Rio de Janeiro, will receive a gift from one of the largest dance companies in the world, the Kirov Ballet.

The Kirov Ballet will give a free performance of its show “Gala” at the Quinta da Boa Vista at 17.30 pm on 7 September 2011. This is a great opportunity, especially for those who love ballet but could not get season tickets for the Teatro Municipal – which runs from Wednesday 31st August to Monday5 September and for which tickets have already been completely sold out. Kirov Ballet’s show will be your opportunity to see a compilation of excerpts from classics such as “Chopiniana,”"Don Quijote” and “Carmen.”

During its 2001 tour in Brazil, the Kirov Ballet also gave a free performance for about 30 thousand people in the Botafogo Bay, one of the coastal neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro. On that occasion, some 30,000 spectators attended the show.

With its history of tradition and excellence, the Kirov Ballet will perform in the Brazilian scenario for the fourth time on Wednesday 7 September. The team consists of 100 dancers and 40 technicians of the Mariinsky Theatre, home of the company in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

The Kirov Ballet is known to have given rise to well-known ballets such as “Don Quijote” and “La Bayadere”, and two excellent ballets of Tchaikovsky: “Sleeping Beauty” and “The Nutcracker.” The dance school of this company is an important reference for ballet in the world. Dancers such as Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov first came from the Kirov Ballet.

In Brazil, the Kirov Ballet has been seen by over 120,000 people. All presentations in Brazil quickly crowd the theaters. This season, the company went to San Pablo from August 23rd to 28th, and will continue its tour in Bello Horizonte after its performances in Rio de Janeiro.

The show in Rio de Janeiro on September 7, however, is outdoors in the Quinta da Boa Vista – São Cristóvão, with free admission. If you like the ballet and plan to do tourism in Rio de Janeiro next week, do not hesitate and go to the Botafogo Bay on time to see the show, which starts at 17.30hs.
