Pervak reaches semis
The Russian needed exactly one hour to send Larriere packing, breaking her seven tines in ten tries. Larriere also broke the main favorite twice but never got the chance to stay atop of the seeder against whom she only won 42 percent of return points.
Pervak came up with a solid 68 first serve percentage, winning at the same time 66 percent of receiving points. The French, who had previously ousted Magdalena Rybarikova in the second round and Zuzana Kucova in the opener, committed six double faults as she was not able to control her game. She finished the meeting with a 58 first serve percentage and an ace.
Ksenia will next meet Urszula Radwanksa who follows a three set win against Eleni Daniilidou. The Polish player needed two hours and a half to get rid of the stubborn Greek who was following two straight set wins against Pauline Parmntier and Misaki Doi.
Radwanksa edged Daniilidou 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 after converting eight out of 20 break points. The favorite thus had an impressive offensive game which helped her stay in touch with the victory despite being pushed into a third set decider.
Daniilidou broke her opponent six times in nine tries but she could only even the situation thanks to a couple of breaks grabbed in the second set which helped to keep the win chances alive for awhile. But the third term was dominated by the same Polish who picked three more breaks in six tries, leaving her opponent two games behind to speed to a hard fought win.
Overall, Radwanksa, who has not won a title so far, finished the game with a 64 first serve percentage, a 51 return one, five double faults and three aces. On the other side, the Greek came up with a 79 first serve percentage, a 47 receiving one, a couple of double faults and an ace. The head to head series between the two have now gone 1-1 with Daniilidou’s only victory coming from this year’s Fes event.
Previous to the quarter final win, Pervak had ousted Galina Voskoboeva 6-2, 7-5 in the opener and Sabina Sharipova 6-3, 6-3 in the second term. Her next opponent Radwanksa follows a 6-1, 6-4 win against Jane Cepelova whom she defeated in the first day and a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 one over Akgul Amanmuradova.
Concerning the second half of the draw, sixth favorite Alla Kudryavtseva had an easy life against Sorana Cirstea of Romania who had previously defeated second seed Bojana Jovanovski. The Russian ousted Cirstea 7-6, 6-4, needing one hour and 42 minutes to secure the final four round berth.
The Romanian managed to push the first term into the tie break and forced her opponent to clinch the breaker at the death 7-5. As for the second set, it was dominated by the same favorite who broke Cirstea once and saved all the six break points coming from the opposite side.
World number 92 Romanian thus provided a poor offensive play, allowing Kudryavtseva to grab her third win over her. The head to head series between the two have now gone 3-1 with Romanian’s only win coming from the 2008 New Haven event. The Russian has previously defeated her at the 2-11 Indian Wells.
Kudryavtseva finished the game with a 56 first serve percentage, three aces, seven double faults and a 38 return percentage, while Cirstea’s showing included a 58 first serve percentage, two aces, two double faults, a break conversion and a poor 35 receiving percentage.
The Russian will face Eva Birnerova in the semi final, who edged Valeria Savinykh 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 21 minutes. Savinykh had previously ousted one of the main favorites Sevastova but was unable to provide a similar performance against the Czech who snatched a hard fought win in front of the lively Russian.
Birnerova broke her opponent six times in eight tries and conceded five services, something which pushed the game into a third term decider. A couple of more break point conversions helped her to stay in touch with the win as Birnerova set a three game lead she eventually converted into the long awaited win.
Savinykh looked confident before the game, given her first big win against a top 100 opponent. “I have lost so many close matches from winning positions this year, and this match looked no different. I just took some time and said to myself that I’m not going to lose this match, and just went for winners. This match has given me back my lost confidence.”
The head to head series between Savinykh and world number 115 Birnerova have gone 1-1. The 20 year old Russian’s only win comes from this year’s Johannesburg tournament. Birnerova had previously ousted Junri Namigata 6-4, 6-1 in the opener and Evgeniya Rodina 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 in the second term, while her next opponent Kudryavtseva had eliminated Vesna Dolonts 6-2, 7-5 in the first day and Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the second round.
