Voskoboeva speeds through Seoul final
Galina Voskoboeva has booked a place into the Seoul final after stunning fifth seed Polona Hercog in two sets, 6-1, 6-4, to meet sixth favorite Jose Maria Sanchez in the last term.
The Kazak needed just one hour and a half to oust the favorite whom she broke twice in the first term and a couple of more times in the last set. As for Hercog, she also managed to build seven break points in the second set but could only convert one of them, losing the game very easily. Voskoboeva thus provided an impressive return efficiency winning 49 percent of receiving points which helped her to rally past the Slovenian who was chasing her second title of career.
Galina also came up with a 49 first serve percentage, a 63 service one, four aces and six double faults. Overall, she converted four out of 13 break points and saved nine out of ten coming from the Slovenian. Concerning Hercog’s showing, it included a 59 first serve percentage, three double faults, a 37 return percentage, two aces and a 51 service percentage.
The Kazak had a great week in Seoul, her forehand having helped her very much in her progress. “Yes, my forehand is definitely my best shot. It’s a very good shot naturally and I’m also working on it very hard. I can say it’s my weapon,” she said.
Voskoboeva will next meet another seed, Maria Jose Martinez who has also grabbed a straight set win in the final four term. The Spaniard beat Klara Zakopalova 6-3, 6-2 in just one hour and seven minutes. The two exchanged six breaks only in the first half but it was the Spanish player to convert four out of five chances, leaving Klara three games adrift.
Martinez then gave her opponent to chance to build a break point, dominating the second set very easily. She converted a couple of more breaks to go four games ahead of the losing pace Zakopalova who could only win two of her services.
World number 43 Klara still leads the direct confrontations 2-1, her last win coming from the 2009 Sydney event. En route to the final, Sanchez has also picked big wins against third seed Julia Goerges, whom she defeated 7-6, 6-1 in the quarter final, Kirstyna Pliskova whom she eliminated 7-6, 6-2 in the second round and against Irina Falconi whom the Spaniard beat 6-3, 6-3 in the first day.
As for her opponent, Voskoboeva has also picjed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Vera Dushevina, a 6-4, 6-4 one against Iveta Benesova and a similar one against Ekaterina Makarova in the first round.
