Robredo packs after opener defeat
Eighth seed Tommy Robredo has packed from the Swedish event earlier than expected when the Spaniard was eliminated by Tobias Kamke in two sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Kamke dominated both terms, breaking the favorite twice in the opener which he won very easily and just under half an hour. As for the last set, it saw the two exchange three breaks, who of which taken by the same Kamke who built a three game lead amid the term he eventually converted into a one hour and two minute victory.
The German finished the game with four break point conversions in seven tries, a 67 service percentage as well as two aces and a 49 return percentage. He also committed four double faults, compared to Robredo’s performance which included an ace, a 56 first serve percentage and a 33 return one. World number 109 Kamke, who met the 48th tanked Robredo for the first time in career, will next meet host Michael Ryderstedt.
On the same second half of the draw, Jarkko Nieminen and Stanislas Wawrinka will also provide a tight second round. The Finnish ousted Romania’s Marius Copil in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, needing nearly one hour and a half to make the progress and meet the Swiss, who has been favored by a BYE in the opener.
Nieminen broke the Romanian once in the opener and was forced to a tie break in the next term. The two held their serves consistently in the second set, but it was the same Finnish to go three mini breaks atop and close the meeting after two rounds.
Jarkko finished the game with a 54 first serve percentage, a 26 return one and a break, compared to Copil whose showing featured a 50 first serve percentage, ten aces and a 74 service percentage.
