'The Simpsons' To Be Cancelled
The Simpsons to be cancelled after 23 years
One of the longest running comedy series in the world – The Simpsons – might be cancelled, according to the 20th Century Fox Television who have announced they are no longer willing to sustain the production due to the pay cuts.
The series might thus be cancelled for the first time after 23 years, though the production company as well as The Simpsons producers, said they do not exclude the possibility of reaching an agreement. Even more than that, some of the producers are willing to have their pay cut just to make sure the series will continue.
Although Fox initially stood firm on their decision, it is today that the two sides might find a solution to save the series. According to reports, 20th Century Fox asked a 45 percent pay cut, measure which the studio denied as just. Furthermore, the voice actors might be expected to have their pay reduced by 30 percent.
Read Fox TV statement: “We believe this brilliant series can and should continue, but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model. We are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with the voice cast that allows ‘The Simpsons’ to go on entertaining audiences with original episodes for many years to come.”
The voice actors – including Yearley Smith (Lisa), Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart) are currently making $8 million per season, but their pay might be seriously cut at the end of the negotiations.
The Simpsons has their original run on December 1989 and nearly 500 episodes have been produced ever since. The show is also broadcasted in more than one hundred countries and 50 languages.
