Two Blasts Kill 25 and Wound 175 in Aleppo, Syria
Blasts in Aleppo
Two bombs exploded in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Friday, killing 25 people in what is considered the worst surge of violence in the commercial hub of the restive country, which has been subject to violence for the last 11 months.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, as the Syrian television shows mutilated bodies and limbs laying on the pavement. The incident comes as the regime in Damascus is growing more ferocious in the attempt to tone down the popular rebellion.
The state television apologized for being in the position to show images with corpses and severed limbs, but added that this was what terrorism was doing to the country, reminding of the accusation of the president Bashar, who has said constantly that the situation in Syria was caused by a conspiracy against Syria, and that those who were protesting were “terrorists.”
Syrian television quoted the Health Ministry, which said that 25 people were killed in the two blasts, and 175 were wounded. The reporter said that children were among the victims.
The people of Aleppo were recorded blaming the Qatari Prime Minister and the Turkish Prime Minister for the tragedy that befell them, since the two PMs are among those who advocated an intervention in Syria.
The army tanks were massed on Friday in the neighborhoods where the protesters lived, continuing the heavy repression on the people of this city, which is the hotbed of the rebellion that started 11 months ago.
On Friday, tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest against Russia’s veto on the resolution on Syria, which would have condemned the crackdown. The protest is called “Russia is killing our children” and comes a few days after the visit of the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, who wanted to convince the Syrian regime to end violence and begin talks with the opposition.
Bashar al-Assad is said to have urged Moscow to mediate for talks with the opposition, something Russia may not do that easily anymore, considering that the people of the restive country consider it responsible for the tragedy of the Syrian people.
Bashar al-Assad also allowed an extended Arab League mission to continue its evaluation in the field. The mission had been suspended by the Arab League following the failure of the regime to comply with the request forwarded by the AL, according to which the president was demanded to step down and hand over power to a deputy, to end violence, and to establish a unity government to prepare elections.
The proposition forwarded by Qatari PM, and became the text of the resolution Russia vetoed over the weekend. in Syria it was deemed as a intrusion in state affairs.
As the people protest in Syria against Russia, which is an old ally of Syria since the Soviet era, the chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament Alexei Pushkov was quoted by the CNN online edition to have said that there was intelligence suggesting that a special task force was operating on Syrian soil. The news is also hosted on the famous DEBKAfile.com, considered by many a website with sources in Mossad.
Debka says that U.K. and Qatari troops are already deployed in Syria and help the people in Homs against the offensive of the troops. The same website is saying that the Turkish Prime Minister is planning a no-fly zone on the neighboring country.
Pushkov said that “in case the reports are proved to be true” the situation would be the same as the one in Libya, where NATO imposed a no-fly zone and then supported the rebels with arms to overthrow the regime of Muammar al-Qaddafi, who was apprehended and killed in his hometown, Sirte, in October 2011.
The Russian chairman goes on to say that the task force, if confirmed on Syrian territory, is supplying the rebels with weapons, and that they apply a rigid pressure on the regime, while imposing any conditions to the opposition.
Russian 24/7 English channel Russia Today reports, citing Chinese daily Renmin Ribao, that 15,000 Iranian al-Quds troops are ready to deploy in Syria at the request of the president Assad, an information Tehran neither confirmed nor refuted, while the international media could not confirm.
Al-Quds troops are special forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and are said to have interfered with the conflict in Iraq.
