Aguero completes hat trick as City beat Wigan
Sergio Aguero continues to confirm at the Eastlands as the Argentine scored all the goals in Manchester City’s 3-0 win against Wigan Athletic on Etihad. Roberto Mancini’s side thus remain top spot alongside local rivals United, while the newly arrived has become the Blues top scorer with six goals in four games.
Adam Johnson was the first to put pressure on keeper Al Habsi missing a great chance early in the fifth minute. Newly transferred Gael Clichy beat his mark to deliver a superb cross from the left the midfielder failed to contact in what should have been an early opener. David Silva then tried his luck with a shot from range in the tenth minute but his 20 yarder was held by Habsi with ease.
Three minutes later Aguero opened the score, following an impressive action from left. Silva was picked inside the box and then picked the Argentine with a low pass to beat the keeper into the far post. Wigan marked their first big chance in the 16th minute through Di Santo who mocked a golden chance for the visitors.
The striker was played in good position but a vigilant Hart kept the sheet clean for Mancini’s side. City were gifted a penalty in the 18th minute after Silva was taken down by Lopez. Calros Tevez took the responsibility for the white spot execution but the Argentine was denied by Al Habsi who guessed the direction and made the save.
City got yet another big occasion in the 29th minute when Richards hit the bar with a powerful shot. Just a minute later Aguero failed to complete the double, his 20 yarder going just wide. City hit the post for the second time in the 36th minute. Kompany fired a dangerous shot only to miss the target from good position. The follow up was then wasted by Toure.
Di Santo was blocked for the second time in the 43rd minute when the former Chelsea player failed to meet the ball in front of exited Hart who took the striker’s face at the death. The half time went 1-0 but the hosts were still dominating the game at almost all facets.
Concerning the second part, it saw Tevez miss another opportunity, being denied by Al Habsi inside the box. Rodallega tried his luck with a dangerous shot Hart managed to tip away in the 60th minute. Tevez was then replaced with another newly arrived Samir Nasri who would make Mancini’s side look much better.
Aguero completed his double just two minutes after Nasri’s arrival. Silva beat his marks in the middle only to feed Nasri just outside the box from where he also picked Augero inside of it for a superb finish below Al Habsi. The Argentine needed to wait just six more minutes to complete his hat trick. Silva’s through ball met the striker inside the box to beat the keeper into the far post.
Mancini then replaced Aguero with Balotelli and coach Roberto Martinez introduced Jordi Gomez and Albert Crusat for Watson and Si Santo. With ten minutes left Abdul Razak was also introduced for Yaya Toure, but the scoreboard remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Said a delighted Mancini after the game: “Silva is a top, top player. Football for them comes easy.  Like anyone else I like watching it when we play well. But football is about winning too and sometimes you play better than the other team and lose. Against Wigan we should have closed the game off much more quickly. We can still improve and we must improve if we are to arrive at the top.”
Manchester City are second in the standing with the same number of points as champions Untied, 12, while Wigan dropped ninth with five points won in four games. City will next meet Fulham in London and Wigan visit Everton next Saturday.
