Tottenham's Sandro Signs Long Term Extension
Sandro signs five year extension
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Ranieri has penned a five year extension with the White Hart Lane, the English club have announced. The 22 year old has joined the Londoners last year after splitting with his former side Internacional.
Sandro has scored just one goal with Harry Redknapp’s side with which he has picked 19 selections. The Brazilian has gathered 26 selections in all competitions, being considered one of the main cornerstones in Spurs midfield. A knee injury is still keeping the Brazilian out of the bench, being likely to make the return next month. Sandro suffered the injury during an international duty at the Copa America.
Said the player: “I’m convinced we’ll have a good season at Tottenham. It’s a great club, with great players. I believe we can finish in the top three or four this term.” Sandro’s only goal comes from a tough local clash against Chelsea on Stamford Bridge.
Spurs have also brought Scott Parker at the White Hart Lane on transfer deadline day, the former West Ham United player being expected to make his debut this weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers. “It’s evident how much the club has progressed. Tottenham have always been a very big club in terms of the players they’ve attracted and the way they’ve played, that certain style of football.”
Tottenham had a tremendous season last year, managing to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter finals for the first time in club history, eliminating former European champions AC Milan. Unfortunately, they failed to make yet another appearance within the UCL, but Redknapp’s side will play within the Europa League competition.
The White Hart Lane side are currently foot of the table in Premier League with zero points in two games. Redknapp’s side was beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in the first day, while Manchester City thwarted them 5-1 in the second one in London. They were drawn Rubin Kazan, PAOK and Shamrock Rovers in the first group of Europa Leauge. Tottenham will first meet the Greeks on September 15 in Thessaloniki.
Apart from Scott Parker, Redknapp managed to keep both Bale and Luka Modric in London despite the large number of bids. Chelsea struggled to bring the Croatian on Stamford Bridge but Spurs are likely to have their creative player on White Hart Lane for at least six more months.
Blues manager Andre Villas Boas declared that the West Londoners are no longer interested in his services as Chelsea signed Juan Mata from Valencia and Liverpool’s Raul Meireles who will fill the midfield area.
Spurs succeeded to bring Emmanuel Adebayor on their side although the player wanted to sign a full time job with Real Madrid. Manchester City loaned the 27 year old Togolese for one season, the striker being at his second Londoner club after Arsenal.
Former Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel, Siena’s Souleymane Coulibaly, Christian Ceballos and Juventus’ Iago Falque also joined the Hart Lane this summer.
