Libya Will Be a Moderate Islamic State
Mustafa Abdel Jalil
Libyan new leadership promised that the regime in the country will be a “moderate” Islamic one, and that this kind of Islam would be the source of Libyan law in the next constitution of the country.
Mustafa Abdel Jalil, the interim leader of the country, head of the National Transitional Council, announced the Libyan people these changes in a public address in the Martyrs’ Square in Tripoli, where he received a very warm welcoming, on the occasion of the celebration of victory against Qaddafi’s regime.
Jalil said in his public speech that no extremist ideology, either pertaining to the left or to the right, will be accepted in the new legislation of Libya, which will have to reflect however that the people of this country are Muslim, therefore a moderate Islam legislation will be created and enforced in the country.
The meeting in the Martyrs’ Square comes at a time when Amnesty International accuses both sides in this war of having committed atrocities and crimes against humanity.
The organization said that in the first days of the rebellion against Qaddafi the NTC rebels killed a number of captured soldiers and mercenaries. The NTC was reported to be unwilling to hold its troopers accountable for these possible war crimes.
Among those who were killed there were people who were beaten to death, shot to death or hung. Even so, the possible crimes committed by the NTC troops are considered at a “smaller scale” as compared to the ones committed by Qaddafi’s troops.
A new audio recording was broadcasted by Syrian media in which Qaddafi was pledging to defeat those who planned the “coup” against him, and urged Libyans to fight against what he called “giving Libya back to the colonialists.”
His exhortations seem to have produce some effect, since the troops that are still loyal to him in the country launched an attack on Monday on the oil refinery town of Ras Lanuf, and at Bani Walid, a city that is southeast of Tripoli. At least 12 NTC soldiers were killed at Ras Lanuf.
NATO issued a report on Tuesday by which it announces that its aviation raid hit a radar system, eight surface to air missile systems, five surface to air trailers and two air defense command vehicles.
This violent counterattack on the part of Qaddafi’s loyalists comes after Niger announced that 32 members of the inner circle of the former regime have arrived in the neighboring country.
US State Department announced that Niger is ready to detain Saadi, the third Qaddafi’s son, who arrived in this country along with 10 generals of the former army.
