The Zigante Restaurant and Truffles Company

"LandepNews"

The Zigante Restaurant and Truffles Company has a rather unique entry in the Guinness World Records. In 1999, its manager Giancarlo Zigante and his trusty dog Diana were walking in an Istrian wood when they discovered the largest truffle in the history, weighing in at an astounding 1.3 kg. Building on this success, Zigante Truffles expanded its retail section and now has five outlets located throughout Istria. The village of Livade, Croatia was the setting for Giancarlo’ dramatic discovery. Home to the company’ original truffle store, 2002 saw the opening of its highly acclaimed Zigante Restaurant.
The interior pairs original stonework and exposed wooden beams with sleek and stylish laid tablets. The newly extended restaurant now boasts two dining rooms seating up to 44 guests in an elegant setting, or parties of up to 74. The sheltered terrace can accommodate 60. New additions include VIP room for exclusive parties and even special accommodation for diners’ pets.
This restaurant ascended to the top of the country’s gastronomic ladder within just two years. Fresh truffles can be enjoyed at the restaurant year-round. White truffles are available from September until January, while their black counterparts are in season from May until November. Wine enthusiasts will be pleased to find that the piquant aroma of Zigante’ truffles is perfectly accentuated with a fine vintage. Award-winning sommelier Emil Perdec is always on hand to recommend a suitable wine from his list, which features classics wines from Bordeaux, Tuscany and Australia alongside Croatia’ most revered names.
