“Namma Metro” train service was inaugurated in Bangalore

“Namma Metro” train service was inaugurated  in Bangalore on October 20, 2011 by the Indian Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi.

The train was flaged-off in the presence of Karnataka CM Sadananda Gowda. Later, the ceremony was held at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds. Around 50,000 people took part in it.

Thousands of people thronged to the MG Road Metro station to take a joy ride after the service was inaugurated. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd earned a whopping Rs. 14.7 lakhs revenue on the first day itself.
The ‘Namma Metro” is built at a cost of Rs. 6000 crore, more than 20,000 people are expected to use the services each day.
The BMRCL will run the train initially on a 7-km stretch from MG road to Byyappanahalli whole day.
Bangalore residents had a sigh of relief hope as they expect the metro rail to ease the traffic congestion in the city.
