With a friendly receptionist at the top of a pair of stilts, the rest area created by the Tourism Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro provided the public with information about the city. However, not limited to that, he also provided entertainment for visitors. Those who came to the stand could take pictures in panels representing different tourist spots. These photos were revealed and delivered the same day made for comfort, becoming a nice souvenir of the trip to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Rock in Rio that many made at this time.
On the third night of the event, which gave the stage to the biggest names in rock such as Metallica and Slipknot, an unusual character was found lounging in the stand of Riotur. The young “paulista” – as people from Sao Paulo are called – Flávio Ventura, appeared in a costume. During the Slipknot’s presentation, he stayed in the stand wearing a mask, clothing and shoes identical to the band’s drummer, the American artist Joey Jordison. The masked character was well received by the audience of metal fans, who gathered in the stand to take a photo next to the character and take home good memories from Rock In Rio de Janeiro 2011.
With television sets transmitting the performances in real-time, the RioTur’s stand became a meeting point for all fans of rock music, many of whom preferred to avoid the crowds and see the presentations with more ease in the lounge of Riotur. Tourists visiting the RioTur stand, as well as local cariocas, were also able to take home the “Guia do Rio”, informational materials delivered free by Riotur, and dedicated in this edition to the Rock in Rio festival.
Do you know someone who was in Rock in Rio and went to the stand of RioTur to get his or her picture taken? Or perhaps you were on a trip to Rio de Janeiro in those days and visited the stand? In either case here is the list of links to the Flickr albums of images from each day of the festival, where you can download yours.
