Human Chain Around Isfahan Site

Hundreds of Iranian students on Tuesday formed human chains around Iranian nuclear plants for fear that they may come under attack of the Israeli Air Forces, following repeated warnings of Israel and the campaign conducted two weeks ago by the Israeli government in favor of striking Iranian nuclear facilities.

The students held hands and chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel,” saying that they would die rather than allow Israel to bomb the facilities of their country. The students in Isfahan held a prayer in front of the gates of the nuclear plant and said they would not leave until they were sure that the situation would not become critical.

The nuclear plant at Isfahan and the one in Natanz are the ones that enrich uranium and as such are expected to be targeted by the Israeli forces in case they decide to attack Iran.

There is also a potential target at the heavy reactor site of Arak, in central Iran, an enrichment site at Fordo, south of the capital, the power plant of Bushehr and the medical reactor in western Tehran.

Iranian foreign policy committee chairman in the parliament said that the lawmakers will hold another parliamentary session to discuss the improvement of the cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which released a document according to which Iran was working at developing the nuclear weapon capability.

Tehran dismissed the charges as pure fabrication, but Israel said that it was time to strike the Iranian nuclear capability now, before it became too late. According to estimates the Iranians could produce their first bomb in months. The same report alludes that in its progress Iran was helped by Soviet, Pakistani and North Korean scientists.

Israeli PM and the defense minister attempted to convince the cabinet to move on Iran before the winter falls, and made intensive preparations for that, testing one of the newest Jericho missiles, conducting air drills at the Italian military airports at the Mediterranean sea, conducting a simulation of an attack on the territory of Israel, and lobbying the Western capitals to enlist support.

Although the United States has not shown too much commitment to the idea of opening another front in the Middle East, probably the hardest and most dangerous one, there are countries that said they would prepare for the possibility.

The British officials said that if Israel attacked Iran, the US army would have to enter the conflict to help Israel. They estimate that Israel would have Iran attacked by Christmas. Israeli military analysis website DEBKAfile estimates that Iran would have nuclear capacities by April 12, and that the window of opportunity to stop that from happening would close by late March.

The American side is favoring economic sanctions over the military option, but they had to admit that a fifth round of sanctions would not do any good, also knowing that Russia and China would not condone another round of economic penalties.

Debka alludes that the American administration knows that economic sanctions can no longer affect the nuclear program of the Iranians, but it would be able to backfire by adding pressure to the national economy as it would unbalance the oil market.

Meanwhile, the Iranian officials announced on Wednesday that according to their investigation the explosion of a military base near Tehran had nothing to do with Israel but it was only the result of a mistake made by the militaries in there.

One of the most important figures of the nuclear program in Iran was killed on that instance, causing European countries to speculate that while preparing an attack on Iran Israel is exercising another way to deal with the situation, by causing this kind of explosions.
