WikiLeaks and Anonymous Publish Stratfor's 5 Million Emails
WikiLeaks and Anonymous Publish Emails
WikiLeaks, the famous whistle-blowing website that became famous after the publishing of the cables the American diplomats were sending to the State Department, announced on Monday that it published some 200 of 5 million emails extracted from the servers of the U.S.-based intelligence firm Stratfor.
The new hit was made by WikiLeaks in cooperation with the hacker online collective called Anonymous, who have hacked into the Stratfor servers in December 2011. Anonymous is said to have passed the emails to WikiLeaks, which in turn recruited 25 media partners to work on the document cache.
Stratfor is said to be a provider of “strategic intelligence on global business, economic, security and geopolitical affairs,” and claims to have 300,000 subscribers. The emails are said to contain among other things privileged information about the U.S. government’s attacks on Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, and even Stratfor’s attempts to attack WikiLeaks.
WikiLeaks says that there are 4,000 emails that mention Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, as well as data about how private intelligence companies in the United States operate. Stratfor issued a statement in which it deplores the breach of privacy and recognizes that the emails are genuine and that they were stolen when their servers were breached.
One of the emails from November 2011 discusses the explosion of an Iranian missile base near Tehran, and quote a source who is said to have alleged that “the Israelis have already destroyed all the Iranian nuclear infrastructure on the ground.”
The Stratfor analysts say that this could have been done by the Israelis through the Kurdish fighters in Iran or the Jewish Iranians who are believed to have been the ones to carry out such operations.
A Stratfor analyst is quoted to have said that the information about the Israeli attacks on the Iranian nuclear facilities would not put the Europeans’ mind at ease and let them focus on the Euro crisis.
Another email is said to have referred to the health condition of the Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, as the firm was trying to coerce an Israeli source into updating the firm on the progress of Chavez’s health.
