Spurs Loan Adebayor For One Season
Adebayor loaned to Spurs for one season
Tottenham Hotspur have finally agreed on a one year loan deal with Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, who has thus missed the chance to receive a full time job by Real Madrid, the side for which he played six months this year.
The 27 year old, who scored eight goals for Jose Mourinho’s side, is expected to play alongside Van der Vart and Peter Crouch in Tottenham attack, though he is considered a replacement for the English striker. Adebayor, who was keen to remain with Real, has joined the third Premier League side after Arsenal and City with which he did not win any important trophy.
The Togolese is to play one year for the White Hart Lane side who have qualified for the Europa League group stage thanks to a fifth place grabbed last season. Spurs said in a statement: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.” Tottenham spent several weeks negotiating City and it is today the two sides have agreed on the loan.
Adebayor was no longer part of Roberto Mancini’s future plans as the Italian manager has already made three big name transfers this year, bringing Sergio Aguero of Atletico Madrid, Arsenal’s Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy. Carlos Tevez also has plenty of chances to part with the Blues this summer as Inter are among the main candidates for the Argentine.
Inter lost Samuel Eto’o earlier this week and are keen to bring the Argentine on Giuseppe Meazza where he could pair compatriot Diego Milito in their attack. Up till now, neither Inter or City have revealed the deal.
Apart from Adebayor’s arrival, the Spurs are also likely to have Juventus midfielder Iago Falque on their side, as well. The 21 year old could be a replacement for Luka Modric who edges a Chelsea move, according to the recent reports. Falque finished the season seventh with Juve who have failed to reach an European competition group.
So if he signs Spurs he will be able to play in the Europa League next season. “Iago loves big challenges and this with Spurs is very important. It will be hard, but he will fight for his place,” said his father who is also is his agent. Iago is to join Barca’s Cristian Ceballos and Siena’s Souleymane Coulibaly among the Spurs new teenagers.
Tottenham had an disastrous season start as Spurs were thwarted 0-3 by defending champions Manchester United in the first day of the new term. Harry Redknapp’s side will next meet Manchester City on Sunday at the White Hart Lane where the Togolese might make his first debut with the white jersey in front of his former side.
Mancini’s side lead the Premier League table with six points won in two games. City beat Swansea 4-0 in the first day and edged Bolton Wanderers 3-2 last Sunday, having arch rivals right behind them.
