Vettel claims 13th pole
The German, who has already defended the title, was followed by Lewis Hamilton who set a 0,296 second gap against the youngster. Red Bull will also have Mark Webber on third position as the Aussie, who has not won a title this year, was just 0,330 slower than his team mate. Former world champion Fernando Alonso, who is also chasing his first title of the season in India, came on fourth position with a 0,341 second gap.
Jenson Buttin, who is chasing his third season title came fifth, 0,772 seconds slower the Vettel, while Felipe Massa was the last to come under a second. Nico Rosberg from Mercedes set a 1,273 second gap against the champion, being followed by Force India’s Adrian Sutil and Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari.
Michael Schumacher came 12th, while Sergio Perez provided a poor showing, being expected to start on 17th position on Sunday.
On Friday, Hamilton was fined as result of ignoring the yellow flags during the first free practice as the Briton declared he accepted the measure. “I was engaging the DRS when the yellow flags were out and you’re not allowed to. I went in there and I put my hands up and said I accept whatever penalty they give, and that’s what they gave me.”
Kamui Kobayashi came 18th with a 3,698 second gap, being followed by Lotus’s Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli who set a 4,387 and a 4,574 second gap respectively.
Now that Sebastian Vettel has secured the first place in the driver ranking, the most exciting fight will be brought by Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso who are still chasing the second position. The Briton has gathered 222 points so far this season, while the former world champion has won 212.
Mark Webber is also among the favorites for the second place as the Aussie has earned 209 points this season. Nevertheless, he also has to be lucky to grab the second position at the end of the year, given Button and Alonso’s tight contest.
